With volunteer Lion members from more than 100 Lions Clubs all over the state, the CubSight program is screening on an average of 15,000 children per year. These Lion members are well trained to use specialized screening equipment to insure the best results.

HOW IT WORKS!!!

A screening location, date and time is coordinated with your location by the local Lions Club. Release forms are sent out to the parents of the children in the school, church or center where the screening will be performed. Lion volunteers conduct the screenings using the MTI Photoscreener and/or the Welch Allyn SureSight Vision Screener. The release form and the screening results are sent to the CubSight main office evaluation.

Screening results are returned to the screening site where they are distributed back to the parents with a PASS, or with REFER recommendations. Children with unreadable results are re-screened by the volunteers at a later date. A letter is sent out to the family of children referred from the screening with recommendations for additional care. For this reason it is very important that we receive clear and correct information on the release form.

With the new Welch Allyn SureSight Vision Screener, the Lions are able to take a reading of the child’s eyes, print it on the special printer and send the results in to the Cubsight Coordinator for evaluation. This new instrument helps to speed up the process, it takes less volunteers and provides us with a reliability factor so there are fewer retakes needed. The volunteers are screening more children in almost half the time as before. The Cubsight Program has been able to acquire 14 of the new Welch Allyn SureSight Vision Screeners, but many more are needed to reach all the children in the state of Louisiana. If you or someone you know can help us with the funding of these screeners please contact us at 1-866-282-7483.
